Sliding Wardrobe Design in Mumbai

Sliding wardrobes fail at the track. Bottom-rolling systems collect dust and hair, and then they jam.

Overview

About sliding wardrobe

Sliding doors earn their place where the bed sits close to the wardrobe — under about 2 ft 6 in of clearance, a hinged shutter cannot open properly, and in Mumbai bedrooms that is common.

The trade-off is real and worth stating: you can only ever see half the wardrobe at once, and the track adds cost. If you do have the clearance, hinged gives better access for less money.

Answers

Sliding Wardrobe — questions

Why top-hung rather than bottom-rolling?

A bottom track collects dust, hair and grit, and once that builds up the rollers jam and eventually chew the track. Top-hung carries the weight from above with only a guide at the floor, so there is nothing for debris to sit in. It costs a little more and it is the difference between a wardrobe that still slides in year eight and one that does not.

How many shutters can I have?

Shutters are capped at about 1,200 mm each for weight and track rating. A 8 ft wardrobe is usually three shutters, a 10 ft one is three or four. More shutters means more overlap, which reduces how much of the opening you can see at once.

Can I have mirrors on sliding doors?

Yes, with the mirror backed by a safety film so that if it ever breaks it holds together. Mirror shutters are heavier, so the track rating has to be sized accordingly — this is a detail worth confirming in any quotation.
