About loft storage
Mumbai flats live on their lofts. Suitcases, bedding, festival items, things that come out twice a year — all of it goes up, and in a flat without a store room there is nowhere else for it.
The usual failure is mechanical rather than structural. A plywood shutter 600 mm or more tall is heavy, and without a gas lift it needs holding open with one hand while you reach with the other, from a stool. Most people stop opening it.
What we specify
How we run the work
Free site measurement
We measure the opening at three heights, check wall plumb and note beam or duct intrusions.
Storage audit
A short conversation about what goes in — saris, suits, luggage, bedding — before any layout is drawn.
3D design and layout
You see the elevation and the internal layout, with hanging, shelf and drawer split marked.
Itemised quotation
Carcass grade, shutter finish, hardware brand and internal accessories each priced separately.
Loft Storage — questions
Should I replace my existing masonry loft?
Usually not. An existing RCC or brick loft carries far more weight than a plywood one and is already there. We build the wardrobe up to it and face it so it reads as part of the unit. Demolishing a sound masonry loft to replace it with plywood is a cost with a downside attached.
Why does the shutter need a gas lift?
Because a 600 mm plywood shutter is heavy, and holding it open with one hand while reaching into the loft from a stool is both awkward and unsafe. The gas lift costs little and it is the difference between a loft that gets used and one that does not.
How much weight can a plywood loft shelf take?
18 mm BWP 710 with supports at 900 mm centres handles normal suitcase and bedding loads comfortably. Beyond 900 mm of unsupported span it will bow under sustained weight. We add a centre support rather than increasing thickness, which is cheaper and more effective.

Sliding wardrobes fail at the track. Bottom-rolling systems collect dust and hair, and then they jam.

An open walk-in needs ventilation in a way a closed wardrobe does not. Mumbai humidity does not negotiate.
