About pop false ceiling
Plaster of Paris is the right material for a cornice, a curved cove or a moulding — it can be worked into shapes board cannot. It is the wrong material for the flat field of a ceiling, which is what it is still sold as.
The traditional method, POP over chicken mesh, has no dimensional stability. It moves with temperature and humidity and it has nothing to move against. In a Mumbai flat that cycles between 70% and 90% humidity for four months, the cracks are a matter of when.

Is POP better than gypsum board?
They do different jobs. Gypsum board on GI framing is the stable choice for the flat field of the ceiling. POP is better for cornices, curved profiles and decorative mouldings, which board cannot form. Most of our ceilings use both — board for the field, POP for the profile. A quotation offering POP over chicken mesh for an entire ceiling is quoting a method that will crack.
Does POP ceiling crack?
Used as a full ceiling over chicken mesh, almost always — it has no dimensional stability. Used as a cornice or profile over a board substrate, it is stable because the board is carrying the movement. The failure is a method problem, not a material problem.
How long does POP work take to dry?
The plaster sets in hours but needs several days to cure fully before sealing and painting. Painting too early traps moisture and causes the finish to flake. We allow 3 to 5 days depending on the weather, which is longer than most quotations assume.
